Cheap Panasonic VIERA TC-P50G25 50-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV Discount Review Shop
After many weeks of research i finally decided to buy this set. The pros outweigh the cons for this set. Here is some of the results of my research.
Pros
-excellent picture quality
-deep blacks
-internet apps
-deals nicely with motion
-anti-reflective filter (does not block all reflection but compared to others it combats reflection really well)
-anti-image retention tools (pixel orbiter and screen swipe feature)
-overall great quality tv for the price (compare an equally good quality lcd/led and at this size you will be looking a much more expensive price tag)
Cons
-speakers aren't that great (do the job but could be better. I use a home theater system so not too important to me.)
-Panasonic's problems with rising black levels (most experts say even after black level rise the tv's levels are still better than other sets)
-floating blacks (some complain that the black letter boxes fluctuate from dark and lighter blacks. Key word is some, as i have not witnessed this problem with my set.)
-no 24p cinematic play back (it has a pulldown capability. Personally, my eyes cannot tell the difference in 24p playback and standard 60hz playback)
Overall i am very happy with my purchase and the quality of the picture. Switching from an high end LCD i can honestly say this set blows it out of the water. Personally with all the new advances in plasmas i cannot see myself going back to an LCD (fluorescent or led backlighting). Panasonic is generally considered to be the best plasma tv manufacturer. (besides the idolized Kuros of course lol) But i did research more than just plasmas so if you are looking for a good quality LCD i would suggest an set with led backlighting and local dimming as they offer the best blacks available for LCD tvs. These sets however are very expensive, much more than this set. Only the higher end LED LCD TVs can even be compared to this set.

Which Size HDTV is Right for My Room?
 | With standard-definition TVs, the rule used to be that viewers would feel comfortable watching a set from a distance of 3 to 6 times the screen size in inches. With HDTV, the resolution is so much better that you can sit closer to a larger TV without noticing the pixels. So with HDTVs, the rule tends to be you can sit anywhere from 1.5 to 3 times the screen size (in inches) for the best experience. If you know the size of the room you have already, where you want to sit, and where your new HDTV should go once you get it, you can figure out the size HDTV you should get.

Defective! Irritating Buzz - Voltaire -
I researched this and other televisions including the Samsung 50" 1080p Plasma. After reading reviews that claimed that the Samsungs sometimes have a horrible buzz I decided on this Panasonic. The Panasonic arrived with an irritating buzz!
Whenever the scene changes colors the buzz changes in pitch or frequency and is audible even over the sounds of action movies. It will be returned for a new one in hopes that this defect is absent. If the new one has the same problem I will be switching brands!
I will update this review when I receive the new one.
The good -
The picture is excellent. The detail is great. It's a good size, even if it's tempting to go bigger.
Straight out of the box I watched some content with black bars top and bottom without any IR issue. Only seconds after watching the entire 2 hour movie did I barely notice the bars with my face literally 4 inches from the screen. When I looked again after coming back from the bathroom it was gone.
The bad -
Black levels aren't what I had hoped for due to reviews, given the TV has not yet seen 100 hours it may not be a fair judgment. Occasionally during darker scenes the blacks in the background shift from dark to noticeably lighter and then back again. If this continues on the new one I receive I will be switching brands, or possibly to LCD.
Great TV - bc1971 -
I am not a huge videophile. I researched tv's by reading a bit and going to Best Buy and found that the LED TV's (not just the 3d ones) made me dizzy. Something about engines that convert the pictures made me feel that the image was unstable. I saw a lot of jumping, shaking, etc, especially when the camera panned. I didn't have this problem with the plasma screens. And it turned out that plasmas, contrary to my expectations, are also cheaper.
I bought this TV and was bummed initially. It turns out that I put the cable line into the TV, and was therefore bypassing the cable box. The picture stunk. I called Panasonic, they were super helpful, and in 5 minutes they had me up and running. The picture is awesome. I'm very happy. I recommend that you buy the HDMI cable.
PS -- High Def stuff looks way better than non high def stuff.
Excellent TV for the price. - C. Yang - NYC
Upgraded my 32" Samsung LCD. Panny's plasma are so much more natural looking and won't fatigue your eyes after long period of watching. LCD/LED TVs are bright and vivid. If that's your style, I would advise not to go plasma. But if you want the greens of a PGA tournament to look natural and pleasing, G25 is the way to go.
Regarding buzzing, there is a slight buzz but that's inherent of plasma TV. If the volume is up above 10, you really don't hear anything and our tv is less than 14 feet from our couch.
If buzzing is loud enough to become an issue, panasonic will fix it. Search "G25 buzzing" and you will find folks who have called panasonic on this issue and they have dispatched tech to replace a PWM board.
Personally, I never like the over saturated colors of Samsung and that of LCD/LED. They give you the "WOW" factor first glance but its not for prolong viewing pleasure, at least that's in my case.
The internet feature is ok, not great, just ok. We don't have a camera so can't comment on Skype but netflix works reasonably well. If you already have Wii or PS3, don't bother with G25's internet feature. Also, don't expect G25's photos/movie playing to replace your dedicate media player, I have not found any video format that it will play (mpeg, H262, avi, rmvb... nada) and photo loading is slow due its inability to index efficiently. Don't bank on any of extra features, get a PS3 or media player from ASUS or WD...
Other than that, its a great TV and real value at ~k

This tv is fantastic. Actually, the picture is much better than my other plasma which is an lg 42 inch. I would suggest this one to anyone interested in buying a new tv.
